What are the risks for Breast Augmentation surgery?

Outside of the standard risks involved with any type of surgery, breast augmentation carries its own set of risks, such as capsular contracture, implant deflation, symmastia, seroma, necrosis, changes in nipple and/or breast sensation, plus several other potential risks.

What is Capsular Contracture?

Capsule or scar tissue that normally forms around an implant that tightens or squeezes the implant. There are four levels of capsular contracture ranging from grade I (breast looks natural and is soft) to grade IV (breast is painful, hard, and looks abnormal).

What happens if I get an infection?

Infections usually make themselves known within a few days to a few weeks following surgery. Symptons include fever, swelling, tenderness, and inflammation.

Which is safer: Silicone or Saline?

Silicone implants have gone through extensive testing and research, far more than saline implants. However, saline is generally considered safer because the saline is made from a saltwater mixture that is easily absorbed by the body should an implant rupture or leak.

What are the long term risks ?

Rupture and/or leakage can occur at any time. In that event, you will need to undergo corrective surgery.
